Common use
Betadine ointment is used for protecting minor wounds against infections. It contains Povidone Iodine, which helps cleanse and disinfect the skin. Ideal for minor cuts, burns, scrapes, and surgical preparation, this solution provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial action. It helps reduce the risk of infections by targeting bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
Dosage and direction
Clean and dry your skin thoroughly before applying the ointment. Apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area. Apply a dressing or bandage to cover the affected area. Use Betadine as needed, typically 1-2 times daily.
Precautions
Consult a doctor before using this medicine in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Patients with renal conditions should exercise caution when taking this medicine. It may also interfere with thyroid function tests in patients with thyroid disorders.
Contraindications
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to Iodine, and polyvinylpyrrolidone, patients who have or have a history of thyroid problems, and patients undergoing lithium therapy for management of depression.

Side effects of Betadine: Dry skin; Irritation at the application site; Red or inflamed skin; Peeling skin.
Drug interaction
Betadine (Povidone Iodine) should not be used together with antidepressants like lithium. It is also important to let your doctor know about any other medicines including over-the-counter medications that you may be taking.
Missed dose
If you use this medicine more than you should, inform your doctor and follow the advice accordingly.
Overdose
As this medicine is meant to be used topically, an overdose is unlikely. In case of this accidental ingestion, effects like vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur. In case of such an event, please visit the hospital immediately.

Store in a cool and dry place. Keep out of the reach of children.
